Our Programs
The Foundation puts the funds it raises back into Scouting through scholarships, adventure funding, and direct financial assistance for families.
2026–2027 Academic Year
Scholarships
The Chinook Scout Foundation offers academic scholarships to students with a demonstrated history in Scouting who are pursuing post-secondary education at a university, college, or skilled trade program.
The Foundation offers up to four new scholarships each year. An individual scholarship provides up to $5,000 annually for up to 4 years, pending continued full-time enrollment in post-secondary training — a maximum award of up to $20,000 per recipient.

Since 2019
Grizzly Den Competition
The Grizzly Den was created by Chinook Council and is being adopted by other Councils across Canada. It gives local Scout troops a chance to pitch their big adventure ideas to a panel of mentors and receive guidance and funding to make those ideas come true.
The first Grizzly Den Adventure came from a Venturer Company that had never been on an Adventure — they didn't have the skills, equipment, or fundraising ability. Several Chinook Council Scouters worked with the Company, and the group ended up on a canoeing and back-country camping Adventure in the Northwest Territories, funded in part by the Chinook Scout Foundation.
The Grizzly Den is proudly funded by the Chinook Scout Foundation.

Annual Fundraiser · Since 1989
Gardner Club Breakfast
The Gardner Club Breakfast was created in 1989 to celebrate Scouts and local businesses. Since its inception, the event has raised more than $750,000 in donations and tickets to support Scouting in southern Alberta.
Each spring, a unique speaker is invited to share their experience traversing Canada's great wilderness. Between breakfast, networking, and curated speakers, the Gardner Club Breakfast has been a resounding success every year.

Year-Round Support
Financial Assistance
Chinook Scout Foundation provides financial assistance to families who are unable to afford membership fees and program costs, helping ensure every young person in southern Alberta has the chance to experience Scouting.
Support is funded through the Foundation's investment portfolio — established by the Estate of Bert Sheppard in 1988, along with subsequent donors, as part of our planned giving program — as well as through our annual fundraising events.
